With the appropriate products for seborrheic dermatitis of the face, it is a condition that can be largely controlled. Of course, addressing the causes of the condition also contributes to even more effective treatment.
What is seborrheic dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin condition characterized by oily scales, rashes, and redness on the skin caused by the intense activity of the sebaceous glands, which causes inflammation at the site.
What are its symptoms?
The symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis appear on the skin, mainly on the scalp, the chest, but very often also on the face, especially in the areas of the eyebrows, chin, beside the nose, and the creases around the lips.
On the scalp, the main symptom is scaly crusts in a much worse condition than dandruff, which is considered the first – non-inflammatory – stage of seborrhea. On the face, this type of dermatitis appears with redness, pimples, and rashes. Other symptoms include intense itching, peeling, and skin flakes.
What causes it?
The exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not fully clear yet. Some studies associate it with infection from the fungus Pityrosporum ovale and others from the fungus Malassezia. In any case, oily skin and excessive sebum production play a major role.
Additionally, related factors such as stress, fatigue, unhealthy diet, acne, and obesity may worsen the problem.
How is it treated?
Seborrheic dermatitis is treated with medicated cosmetics specifically designed for seborrheic skin. Regulation of sebum production is achieved with a holistic therapy, which consists of deep cleansing of the skin with lotion, foam, liquid cleanser or bar soap with sebum-regulating, soothing, and anti-irritant action.
After cleansing, a face cream for seborrheic dermatitis is applied, which helps remove skin plaques and limit their formation while reducing itching and redness. Similarly, there are creams that can be applied to the entire body.
Once seborrhea subsides and is in remission, if acne and intense oiliness are present, it is advisable to use facial cosmetics against acne.
If the condition does not improve, then the dermatologist will suggest special antifungal creams or stronger treatments.
