IRON PROPERTIES

Iron takes part in vital biological functions of our body. It is found in approximately 70% of hemoglobin, the component that gives red blood cells their red color and which has the excellent role of transporting oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. A 5% of the above amount is found in myohemoglobin, a compound that transports and stores oxygen in the muscles. Myohemoglobin has an increased role when the muscles work hard. Iron is essential for the functioning of the immune system as well as for the action of many enzymes that take part in the energy production process. Insufficient iron can lead to anemia and deprive the tissues of our body of a sufficient amount of oxygen. Symptoms of such a condition are usually pallor, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia after light physical exercise, sensitivity to cold, and reduced ability to concentrate. It should be noted, however, that vitamin B12 and/or folic acid deficiency can also lead to anemia (megaloblastic anemia). Other symptoms of iron deficiency may be related to reduced immune system function and include a reduced number of white blood cells, reduced antibody production, and reduced resistance to infections. Recent research has also provided evidence of other symptoms of deficiency, such as a tendency for increased salt consumption, increased fat concentration in the liver and blood, and angular cheilitis (inflammation at the corners of the mouth). Iron deficiency is quite widespread in all population groups, but especially in women of childbearing age and pregnant women. People who experience bleeding, such as stomach bleeding and hemorrhoids, are also at increased risk of iron deficiency. The liver, spleen, bone marrow and muscles function as iron stores in our body.

CONTRAINDICATIONS - PRECAUTIONS

Iron toxicity in adults is relatively rare, because iron absorption is regulated by the intestine, depending on the body's needs. Daily dosages of up to 75-85mg are not expected to have side effects. Higher dosages should be taken with the advice of a doctor. It is generally better for the iron we take as a supplement to come from multimineral-multivitamin supplements, rather than from single iron supplements. In people with an increased need for antioxidant protection, it is recommended to take antioxidants at the same time, because iron, when ionized (Fe2, Fe3), acquires oxidizing properties. People with the genetic condition hemochromatosis should avoid iron supplements or iron-rich foods or cooking in iron or cast iron utensils, as these utensils can greatly increase the iron levels in cooked food. Other people who should not take iron are those who suffer from acute hepatitis, hemosiderosis (a condition similar to hemochromatosis), hemolytic anemia, and people who receive frequent blood transfusions. Iron supplements and medications should be carefully kept out of reach of children, especially young children, as high doses of iron can even cause death in children under 6 years of age.

Shipping costs are calculated as follows:

• €5.80 for a medium locker (dimensions 17x45x62cm, up to 4kg)

• €6.90 for a large locker (dimensions 35x45x62cm, up to 7kg)

For orders over €150, shipping is free.

The parcel remains in the locker for 48 hours, with the possibility to extend for an additional 24 hours upon user request.

Shipping to Cyprus and International Destinations

Orders are shipped via DHL Courier. Shipping costs are calculated based on the destination zone and product weight. You will be notified via email of the final shipping cost.
Prepayment via bank transfer or card is required for order shipment.

In-store Pickup

Orders marked as “Pickup from store” are available after confirmation, provided all products are in stock. You will receive an SMS notification when your order is ready.
